- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆This site is way out in the middle of nowhere. The gravel road off the highway is pretty well maintained. The site itself is fairly new, established in 2000 and a bit primitve. There is not too much to the visitor center but it does have a small bookstore and is air-conditioned. The trail to the overlook is off to the west a bit but is accessible by car. There are a few plaques along the way for historical reference but if the park service guide, Eric is available, he is the best source of info. A real breath of fresh air and tremendously interesting. We enjoyed our visit but can't wait until it is further developed. Check visiting hours before you go. - ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Been to Fort Robinson, Neb. And to Little Bighorn Battle site in the last year. I left with my heart heavy with what had happened there. It was extremely eye-opening and was very spiritual . My last stops were to Pine Ridge Res. And from there I went to the the Wounded Knee Historical site. In all the places my wife and I visited, here was where we experienced the most powerful understanding of the suffering Native American had gone through . We ended our trip by visiting the Crazy Horse Memorial . There it came to a full circle for us.. Hoping to go back soon. We very much want to visit Sand Creek Massacre on our way to South Dakota. Just a little note about our trip.....Red Tail Hawks were always visible on our trip. This was a very good spiritual sign . Made it home safely and greatful!By Fred Melendez, November 27, 2016
